Debabrata Panda from IRESC was invited to present in “Enviro-2018” seminar held in New Delhi on 26th-27th February 2018. He gave a presentation on “Incidents of Fire and Explosion – Use of QRA for Land Use Planning”. The presentation highlighted risks from fire and explosion events that may result in catastrophic events having impact well beyond the facility boundary due to event escalation (domino effects). These risks needs to be managed by conducting suitable risk assessment studies such as QRA early in project phase of a facility. Importance of of country specific risk criteria, development of indigenous failure database, incident database and linking risk assessment results with land use planning was emphasised in the presentation. Also, the need of cumulative risk assessment for cluster of industries was discussed.
The seminar was attended by regulatory bodies, research organizations/institutes, major oil & gas operators, engineering companies and technology suppliers.
